Henri Cartier Bresson Interview: says I am not a photographer

The interview was taken by famous Charlie Rose.

Bresson was a great photographer of all time. Once some photographer said that all the photographers after him are his child. People call “Bresson school of photography” to the style they see of image that is similar to the Bresson style of clicking, and mostly there are no such category of photographs he has not taken. Bresson was born in France, has traveled almost all the countries. In this interview, he talks about who are his 7 fathers, why he doesn’t call himself a photographer, his story of escaping Jail and many more.

In 1947, with Robert Capa, George Rodger, David ‘Chim’ Seymour and William Vandivert, he founded Magnum Photos. He explained his approach to photography in these terms, ‘” For me the camera is a sketchbook, an instrument of intuition and spontaneity, the master of the instant which, in visual terms, questions and decides simultaneously. It is by the economy of means that one arrives at simplicity of expression.”

Cartier-Bresson received an extraordinary number of prizes, awards, and honorary doctorates. He died at his home in Provence on 3 August 2004 .
